Amy Johnson, a former Environmental Engineer from the University of Illinois, studied Fashion Design in Florence Italy and finally found her passion. After 13 years of engineering, she started the KayOss. Italy is where Amy fell in love, with fabric. Her extensive travel allows her to find interesting and unique fabrics from around the world which inspire her to create.
When Amy arrived back to Saint Louis from Italy, a dear friend, Vivian Shearburn, taught her how to sew and KayOss had a product. Now what? She created her first fashion show with good friends, PRONTO. Then sold her first skirt to her engineering client. "When you change careers, everthing is in baby steps and you just keep moving forward."
Now KayOss Designs is a full time career for Amy Johnson, and it is spreading across the nation from her showroom to boutiques and on-line. “KayOss represents a lifestyle, a socal responsibility, to follow your heart and do what you love. There is more and more chaos we bring into our lives everyday, but there is actually an order within this chaos when you create what you want for this world.”
For Johnson, it became fashion, creating beautiful fun garments, for the person who wants to be noticed and feel great. “My goal is to make garments that create compliments, start conversations, open doors for people so they connect with the world and excel at what they love.”
KayOss is all sewn locally in the Saint Louis area by local seamstresses. “It is important to give back to the community that supports you and I will hopefully create jobs, inspire career changes, and offer a unique style. |
